Buying Goods Online

by on 28 August 2012

Buying online is becoming increasingly popular. However, if you buy goods online from another country you need to be aware that you may have to pay Customs charges and/or GST on top of the advertised purchase price when the goods arrive in New Zealand.

Goods liable for duty and GST of NZ$60 or more, in particular clothing and footwear, cannot be released until charges are paid. There will also be an import transaction fee (IETF) and MPI levy, and if the value of your purchase exceeds $1000, you’ll also need a Customs Client Code. This will then require a formal customs clearance.

There are many goods which cannot be brought into New Zealand or for which you need prior approval to bring in – firearms, drugs etc

For more information on these matters, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
