New Zealander’s rights to import and buy parallel imports could be restricted or lost totally, under new international “free trade” treaties.
It has been reported that negotiations for a new trade treaty, the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement ( TPPA), could affect New Zealand’s current laws surrounding parallel imports and that a change is being considered as a possible trade off in the negotiations.
If this were the case it would restrict the ability of importers, wholesalers to import genuine branded products, and as a result consumers would be paying more for a number of items currently imported under the parallel import scheme
