There are two potential labour issues arising in the USA ocean carriage industry as a result of contract renegotiations : East Coast and West Coast, the timing of each concurrently coming to a head could be problematic.
USA shipping lines have announced a PORT CONGESTION SURCHARGE of USD800/20′, USD1000/40′ and USD 1100/40’HC for southbound and niothbound containers effective 5th October.
This notice by the shipping lines is a precautionary measure, should there be no labour disruption at the US ports then the surcharge will not be implemented.
